To: Members of the Murray Clan Society of North America
From: Robert W. Murray, President
Subject: The Juniper Fund
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
We are moving ahead!! At the 2010 AGM in Detroit, the Council of the Murray Clan Society established a committee to research and formulate a scholarship program that would educate, preserve and promote the heritage and traditions of both Scotland and our Society. That charge was met when formal papers establishing The Jumper Fund were signed in the presence of several Society members on November 28, 2010. By taking this action under the umbrella of the Berks County Community Foundation, we now can accept tax deductible contributions for this program which will be of mutual benefit to us all. Obviously the Fund must grow before we can begin to accept applications for scholarship grants.
In the meantime, details and ultimately application forms will be available on our own website and in the Aitionn as well as from the Berks County Community Foundation website. A program of this type has long been a dream of our Society and its success will now need your support in order to meet our Society's goals. Should you desire additional information, please feel free to contact me.
The Murray Clan Society of North America established The Juniper Fund at the Berks County Community Foundation to educate, promote and preserve the history, heritage and traditions of Scotland.
This fund will provide financial support for the following purposes, but not limited to:
• individuals to improve their basics skills in Scottish music, dance, art, cuisine, etc.;
• promote enrichment experiences in Scottish culture, traditions and history;
• enhance activities which benefit the Scottish community and the Murray family at all levels.
The Berks County Community Foundation is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to develop, manage and distribute funding to meet existing and emerging community needs. Through permanent endowments created from charitable gifts, the Community Foundation makes grants from the earnings of the endowment. By keeping the principal balance of the funds intact and spending only earnings, the Community Foundation ensures a lasting and stable vehicle for the support of Scottish history, heritage and traditions.
Founded in 1994, Berks County Community Foundation is one of over 600 community foundations in the United States. Assets as of June 30, 2010 were nearly $50 million, making it one of the fastest growing in the country.
Those wishing to support The Juniper Fund may send their tax-deductible contribution along with the completed form to the Berks County Community Foundation.
